Huntsville is located in Madison County, Alabama. It is central to northern Alabama and is the county seat for Madison County. The western part of Huntsville extends into neighboring Limestone County. As of 2012, Huntsville had a population of 183,739 residents according to city-data.
Huntsville is the fourth largest city in the state of Alabama and is home to several historical museums, parks, golf courses and annual festivals such as the Big Spring Jam and the Panoply Arts Festival. Huntsville’s public school system is run by the educators and staff members of Huntsville City Schools. The majority of Huntsville area students in grades K-12 attend public schools within this school district.
There are over 70 total public schools in the system which includes 33 Pre-Kindergarten programs, 21 elementary schools, eight middle schools, seven high schools and three special education centers. There are two magnet elementary schools which focus on the fine arts, science and foreign language as well as three magnet middle schools, and two magnet high schools. There are also several private schools located in the Huntsville area.

Special Training for Technical Careers
The Huntsville Center for Technology allows students who would like to go into technical training after completing high school to get an early start on their career. This school provides lesson plans for high school level students that are planning on either entering the workforce or enrolling into a college or university and majoring in the technical field. There are also adult night classes offering courses required by local businesses and industries in the area.
