Top 10 most important things for families with young children to consider when purchasing a home?

When you have a family, a lot more thought goes into what home is best for you. When we work with clients who have small children, we make sure their family’s needs will be taken care of.

One of the first things we look at is how the schools are in the area. We use www.GreatSchools.org to check test scores and other data. We also use the internet to see how safe the neighborhood is. www. FamilyWatchDog.us is a great, free website to stay informed on crime rate and other dangers.

Children have a lot of energy, they need parks, trails, museums and other recreational areas to play and have fun. Along with that, make sure there are sidewalks available and the home is away from heavy traffic areas.

Having a safe home involves more than just what’s on the outside. Stairways can be scary when you have small children, but child-proof gates and other safety measure can be put in place to prevent accidents. Don’t let stairs deter you from purchasing a home; you may want the extra space as the kids get older.

Location is very important as well. Are you near people who can help take care of the children if needed? You also want to be close to emergency facilities, police and fire departments, and even a grocery store.

These are some main things we take into consideration when working with families. We hope you find these helpful. If you have any questions or are looking to buy or sell, please call us at 256.799.9000
