Keys to Entrepreneurial Success

If you are like me, you’re a big fan of the show Shark Tank!  I recently had the opportunity to spend some time with Kevin O’Leary as well as Barbara Corcoran on two separate occasions over this past month. It was an incredible experience that allowed me to soak up a great deal of knowledge in the short amount of time I shared with them.

Kevin O’Leary presented at a conference I attended with a select group of realtors from across the country. There he shared the tools he found for funding success, which are instilled in those people that effectively win over the investors from Shark Tank.

He then went on to share the keys to winning in entrepreneurship. But as I was reminiscing back on that day and reviewing my notes, I realized this is something that all of my friends, in-house agents and competitor agents could benefit from! Not to mention, our clients who are business owners or starting out as entrepreneurs! So here is that list of what I’ll just call the 8 keys to entrepreneurial success:Pull Quote Howard 6.24

1.) They are able to articulate their value/business proposition in 90 seconds or less.

2.) They were able to convince the investors that they were the right team to carry out and execute that plan that they talked about.

3.) They know their numbers backwards and forwards and they have a grasp of their business model.

4.) Be prepared to make life/balance sacrifices. Pushing limits and breaking goals isn’t done only 9:00-5:00.

5.) Put customers and shareholders first.

6.) LOVE what they sell!

7.) Use technology to make themselves more efficient

8.) Understand that business is a global competition

As I sat there listening to Kevin, I thought that this really has a lot of correlation to real estate.  If you are thinking about putting your home on the market, some of you will interview several real estate agents. What you’re looking for is an agent that will quickly state their value proposition on what makes them different from other agents (which may take a little more than 90 seconds). 

They must show that they are the right team to carry out that plan and they must know their numbers. These key starting points are what separates our team in our market. We know our numbers and we’re able to demonstrate systematically how we sell homes in North Alabama for more money and for less time on market.
