Today, we’re visiting with Glinda, our certified stager, who shares some tips on how to declutter, stage, and best prepare a home for sale. Here are some invaluable guidelines she has to share with us:
Declutter Tips
The number one thing you should do, if you have time, is clean out your garage and closets. Donate old bikes and toys that aren’t used anymore and make sure closets are clear. That way, you have an option to store more essential items when your home is being shown.
Holiday Decor Tips
When your home is being photographed, make sure you don’t have holiday decorations up. You don’t want to date your home – holiday photos let people know when your home was put on the market. However, holiday decor isn’t a bad idea when your home is on the market and its been shown. It makes the home more warm and personable. Moderation is key!
How to Make a Room Look Larger
The first thing to do is walk through the room and pick up all the small, unnecessary decorative objects. The best thing to do is pull all the furniture and other items from the corners of the room and just focus on the bare essentials.
Paint & Color Tips
Neutral colors are your best options. Sherwin Williams and HGTV have made all the colors used for remodeled homes on television available for purchase online. They also have small samples you can take home, paint on your wall, and see what it looks like with the lighting in your home.
